Juicers
Which juicer should I go for :-
Like me, you might find looking for a juicer to prepare your wheatgrass
a bit of a mine field, especially if you've never juiced before. The first
thing you need to make sure of when deciding on a juicer, is which type
of juicer you will need to juice wheatgrass. Their are two main types,
one is a centrifugal jucier (used for fruit etc and not suitable for wheatgrass)
and the other a masticating juicer (which is suitable for wheatgrass).
Thanks to the good people at ukjuicers.com who
have spent the time researching the Juicer market, I am able to
present the following comparison chart to help you decide which masticating
juicer is suitable for you, based on cost, performance and features.
All the juicers in the chart will happily juice wheatgrass,
but vary in ease of use, performance and of course cost. At the outset,
you might find electrical masticating juicers a little on the expensive
side, but if you intend to
juice large amounts frequently, then they'll pay for themselves in no time
(you only have to look at the prices of wheatgrass juice in Juice Bars).
However, if you feel that you'd like to have a go at juicing wheatgrass
without such expense, then a manual juicer will do the job.
These tests are not manufacturers
claims, but those conducted by UK Juicers.
They were performed using standard conditions and produce and are thus as accurate
as we could make them. The tests refer to 1Kg of produce prepared and ready to
juice.
This is the most efficient manual juicer we have had the opportunity to
test. The robust construction and excellent clamping mechanism offer a solid
base on any worktop thickness. For wheatgrass, this juicer outperforms other
brands of manual juicer, producing a drier pulp and less foam on top of the
juice.
The juicing parts are similar to electric single auger juicers, so the Z Star
is unique in its capacity to successfully juice fruit and vegetables as well
as wheatgrass. Other manual juicers make a brave effort at juicing more than
just leafy greens - The Z Star actually delivers. This makes it genuinely more
versatile, offering fresh juice wherever you go without the need for electricity.
The longer handle makes it easier to operate, requiring less force with tougher
produce, and it comes with its own fitted juicing jug that slides neatly into
place under the juice outlet. This juice outlet has more vertical clearance
above the worktop than other types, which makes for more convenient juice collection.
The Z Star brings manual juicer design into the 21st century in a compact,
user friendly unit. This is undoubtedly the best manual wheatgrass juicer in
our range.
L'Equip have taken the single auger juicer design to the
next level with the 509 VISOR Natural Processor and somehow managed to produce
a wheatgrass capable juicer at a significantly lower price than other electric
models. The feeding chamber has been offset from centre, allowing the auger
to effectively draw produce in; leaves, wheatgrass and foods that don't fit
the chamber too tightly will practically self-feed with just a little help
from the food pusher.
The auger (screw) has been modified to place greater pressure on produce as it
passes the juicing screen. The screen itself has also been redesigned and allows
less pulp to pass into the juice, so most users wont bother with sieving - a
necessity with other single auger juicers. The juice yield is excellent (see
the Juicer
Comparison page and table) as is the quality of juice from this
low-speed masticating machine. It will process most produce efficiently and is
particularly good with greens and soft fruits.
The VISOR is more than simply a juicer and can be used for a whole range of natural
food processing functions. It comes with an assortment of end nozzles for producing
pasta and noodles, and a blank screen which can be used for mincing, pureeing
and making healthy baby foods and fresh frozen fruit “ice creams” and sorbets.
This will undoubtedly make the VISOR very popular with raw food enthusiasts.
This juicer is clearly from the same design stable as it's relative, the 110.5
Pulp Ejector. L'Equip want you to keep this machine on your counter top for daily
use and not in the cupboard; removal of the juicing parts (all dishwasher-safe),
allows the "Stealth Visor" to be flipped down giving an appealing,
eye-catching appearance. The slow and quiet masticating action helps preserve
maximum nutritional value throughout the juicing and processing applications,
and it is one of the easier juicers on the market to clean.
The VISOR makes a perfect choice for people who want excellent results with wheatgrass
and leafy greens and to take advantage of its other processing capabilities (if
you don't need to juice wheatgrass and don't juice lots of greens regularly,
UK Juicers recommend the
Champion Juicer ). The Visor gets excellent results with most fruits
and vegetables but it can be a little slow with apples, particularly if they
are quite ripe. The reverse gear helps speed things up. Remember, it is the slow
masticating action that strips out more goodness; the users patience is rewarded
with a superior quality juice. You can visit L'Equip Europe's website and find

The Twin Health Living Juice Extractor represents the pinnacle
of twin-gear juicer design and we are proud to be the first UK-based importer
of this excellent machine.
The large juicing gears of the Twin Health are over 14cm long and unlike its
rivals they have no plastic parts, being made entirely of surgical-grade stainless
steel. The precision engineering involved in producing these gears offers the
ultimate in breakdown of fruit and vegetable fibres and delivers the best possible
nutrient extraction. These gears rotate at a lower speed than other models, preserving
nutrients and producing juices with a longer shelf life.
The wide choice of 3 different juicing screens makes this juicer equally convenient
to use with all types of produce, from soft fruits through to wheatgrass, delivering
the best possible juice quality. Juice from The Twin Health is intensely flavoured
and very smooth in texture.
The ingenious design eliminates the need for pulp pressure adjustment for different
juices. The two part juicing screens are easier to clean and the assembly process
is simple and straightforward. The blank processing screen further increases
its versatility, allowing the Twin Health to produce nut butters, purees and
frozen fruit "ice cream".
No expense has been spared in the design and development of this juicer and our
long term tests have exceeded expectations. It employs sensor technology to automate
the reverse gear function and protect the machine from overload, prolonging the
life of the motor and parts. The Twin Health has a voice function, which tells
the user which process it is undergoing (these announcements can be switched
off if you prefer).
From the first time you juice with the Twin Health, the excellent build quality
is obvious and it is the sturdiest twin-gear machine we have used. The clever "push
to lock" side clamps and simple three-step assembly make it the most user
friendly juicer in its class; if you want the best forget the rest!
The Green Star Juicer (which supercedes The Green Life)
is the largest in our range of twin gear juicers. Powerful, low speed revolution
of the gears adds very little heat or air to the juice produced, thus slowing
down oxidation and increasing shelf life. The twin gear impellers are engineered
to very close tolerances and press juice from produce at the same time as
breaking it down, producing a nutrient rich juice. The gears contain powerful ‘Bio-Magnets',
which are said to further increase mineral content and availability. Like
all our twin gear juicers The Green Star is ideal for juicing wheatgrass
and all leafy green produce, giving an excellent yield and a very dry pulp.
The pulp ejection pressure adjustment control is easily accessed on the front
of the machine. With a blanking screen it also acts as a food mill for making
purees, frozen desserts and nut butters.
This is exactly the same juicer as the GS1000 with the addition of a coarse screen
(for juicy fruits), drip tray, pasta maker, rice cake maker, sieve and wooden
feed-tube pusher.
The Samson Ultra has been developed by the same company
as The Hippocrates and is an identical machine in operation except in two
respects. With the Samson Ultra, the pulp ejection adjustment screw is located
just underneath the outer casing of the main body at the front, which makes
it slightly less accessible in our opinion. There is also a slight difference
in the locking mechanism of the outer casing but it must be stressed that
neither of these differences significantly affects the functionality of this
machine, it is simply a matter of preference.
It is another compact twin gear juicer with ‘Bio-Magnets' in the gears that are
said to improve the mineral content and availability in the resulting juice.
Ideal for wheatgrass and leafy greens, as are all the twin gear juicers, the
Samson Ultra operates at low speed adding little heat or air to the juice, giving
a good shelf life. It has smaller gears than The Green Star but, as with The
Hippocrates, the feed tube is very slightly larger. The addition of the blanking
screen enables it to mince, make purees, ice creams and nut butters. The Samson
Ultra comes with a larger-holed fruit screen for use with juicy fruits.
The Samson 6-in-1 juicer is a single auger (screw) type
juicer that is good for juicing wheatgrass, leafy greens, pine needles and
herbs. Low-speed application of a crushing force to the juicing produce reduces
oxidation and increases shelf-life.
When juicing vegetables and fruits the yield from this type of juicer is slightly
less than other masticating juicers and the resulting juice contains more pulp.
Having said that, some raw food enthusiasts find the multifunctional aspects
of the machine turn it into a useful all round tool in the kitchen. It comes
complete with attachments for making rice cakes, noodles, pasta, frozen desserts
and mincing seasonings and other foods.
